Accommodation on Hadrian's Wall near Carvoran Army Museum

Our Bed and Breakfast is near Hadrian's Wall

A few days ago we took our friends visiting from New Zealand to the Carvoran Army Museum. They wanted a quick overview of Hadrian’s Wall near our Bed and Breakfast, Walltown Crags and the surrounding area. Carvoran Army Museum is excellent for this. There are good exhibits but the first thing to see is the Eagles Eye film. This film is well titled as it really shows you from the air, the length and breadth of Hadrian’s Wall. What I always find amazing, and you can only get a perspective of this from the film, is that there was a massive fort in the fields just behind Carvoran Army Museum. I don’t know whether this was found using aerial photo graphics or if there was artefacts found in the area which identified the Fort. The film shows the extent of the fort and what life would have been like living there.

Hadrian's Wall Exhibits

The exhibits and information have been upgraded for this year. There is a good display about the Emperor Hadrian which chronicles his life story and another which outlines the history of the Roman Empire, if I have this right, it started around 700BC and continued to about 450AD. Not bad for the Romans. There is information on a Roman soldier’s daily life including his food, pay, activities, armour etc, there are shrines to view, roman barracks and store rooms, chariots and armour all to be seen as well. Carvoran Army Museum is a great place to visit and you can get a discounted ticket to Roman Vindolanda as well. If you are looking to stay visit some of the amazing Roman sites - then you should stay at our accommodation on Hadrian's Wall.
