Tantallon House Wins Yet Another Award - Gold from CREA

We are very pleased to announce that following an Audit by Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency just before Christmas and the subsequent submission of all our documentation i.e. policy, actions, system review etc, CREA has awarded us their Gold Award. This is the highest Award you can achieve for the environmental programme we are on and is the culmination of three years work. We were awarded the Bronze in 2008 and the Silver in 2009. We have continued with many of the environmental actions such as energy monitoring and reduction, insulation to the walls, floors, roof and pipework in the cottage etc.

One notable action in 2010 was to install 5 water reducing shower heads by Eco Products. As we monitor our energy use monthly, we found a noticeable reduction in the LPG gas usage during the summer. I tested the actual water reduction and was surprised to find a reduction of about 60% in shower water usage and this has been reflected in the energy usage.

Our analysis shows, and is supported by CREA, that our guests numbers have increased by 4 times over the past 3 years and our energy usage has been reduced. This energy reduction that we have recorded in LPG and electricity actually equates to a reduction of 2.6 tonnes in carbon emissions, this is a reduction of 21.3% over the last 3 years. We are excited that his has had such a positive impact on our Cumbria Accommodation, and hope to continue this effort for our brand new Holiday Cottage Hadrian's Wall too.
