Tantallon House Bed and Breakfast FAQs

Tantallon House Bed and Breakfast three south facing rooms overlook Hadrian's Wall. We are about 10 minutes off Hadrian's Wall National Trail. The closest point to come off the Trail to reach our accommodation is at the car park immediately adjacent to the Gilsland School. Birdoswald Roman Fort is about 20 minutes walk away, and other sections of the Wall are within walking distance of our accommodation. We are happy to help you plan your route and we have lots of maps and guidebooks you may need.

Yes, we have a drying room for your clothes and shoes. We also provide a washing service if you get really muddy for a nominal fee.

We regret that no pets can stay with you at Tantallon House.

We can cater for vegetarians and other special dietary requirements, for your breakfast and packed lunches. Prior notice is appreciated.

We do not serve evening meals, however we are able to recommend a number of good places to eat which are near to our Bed and Breakfast. We, of course, include breakfast with your stay. We normally take a deposit to confirm bookings. This can be made via a credit card online through PayPal, or sent as a cheque. The deposit amount is dependent on the length of stay and the number of people in the party.

It is possible to pay a deposit using either a credit card online through PayPal, or to send us a cheque. Unfortunately we do not take credit or debit cards as final payment - only cash or cheque. We can arrange for your to pay by Paypal on departure too.

Haltwhistle train station is around 15 minutes drive from Tantallon House. If you are coming by train, the AD122 bus stops at Haltwhistle Railway Station and then continues west, and if you ask the driver, he will stop outside our house.

The AD122 bus will stop outside our house if you ask the driver. We have a sign up so he should hopefully see Tantallon House. It is between Birdoswald and Gilsland Village. Please ask the driver for directions if you are unsure. Otherwise, we are very close to Gilsland Village. See our directions page for more details.

The A69 is about 5 minutes drive from Tantallon House along country roads. We are easily accessible from the main road. See our directions page for a detailed map and instructions on how to find us.

We are roughly 5 minutes walk from the centre of Gilsland Village, where you can find the House of Meg for coffee and newspapers, the Samson Pub where you can eat, and also the Bridge Inn.
