Tantallon House Bed and Breakfast is located in Gilsland Village which is about 5 minutes drive from the A69 which links Carlisle and Newcastle on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland. Our OS Map Reference is NY629667.

Finding Gilsland By Car

From the East - On the A69, about 3 miles past Haltwhistle, take the B6318 signposted Gilsland and Greenhead. At the crossroads continue straight over. Continue on about 2 1/2 miles and you enter the village of Gilsland, go under the railway bridge, continue on through the village about 500 yards, turn right at the T Junction by the Bridge Inn pub, signposted Walton, Spadeadam and Gilsland Spa. After 500 yards, take the next left, signposted B6318 Roadhead, Langham, Birdoswald. Tantallon House is 200m on the right hand side.

From the West - From the A69, take the minor road signposted Spadeadam, Gilsland, Denton, and Birdoswald. (Ignore the first sign post to Low Row and Gilsland as this takes you round the country roads). After 2 miles from the A69, you will come into the village of Gilsland, bear left at the T Junction by the Bridge Inn pub, signposted Walton, Spadeadam and Gilsland Spa. After 500 yards, take the next left, signposted B6318 Roadhead, Langham, Birdoswald. Tantallon House is 200m on the right hand side.

Walking from the Hadrian's Wall Trail

Come off the Hadrian's Wall trail on the west side of Gilsland Village, at the junction of the B6318 where you cross the road and there is the Gisland School and a car park. Walk into the village to the Bridge Inn Pub. Turn left at the T junction signposted Birdoswald.
Walk past the yellow truck garage and over the bridge. Take the next left, signposted B6318 Birdoswald, walk approximately 200 metres and we are clearly signposted and are the second large house on the right.

Finding Gilsland By Train

For those travelling on public transport we are accessible on the Newcastle to Carlisle trainline, with the nearest stop being Haltwhistle.

Finding Gilsland By Bus

Buses run along the entirety of the Hadrian's Wall, which is ideal if you are tired after a full day's exploration. Gilsland is serviced by the 185 bus which stops in the centre of the village and the AD122. Timetables are available here.

The AD122 bus stops outside our house, however you will need to ask the driver to stop here for you. Ask for the nearest stop to the Gilsland Spa Hotel if the driver is unsure. Follow the sign for Birdoswald and we are 2 minutes down on the road on the right hand side.

Finding Gilsland By Bike

The Cycle Route 72 passes our Bed and Breakfast. Look for the Tantallon House B&B sign about half a mile north west of Gilsland Village.
